Overview
Alexandrite laser hair removal is the gold-standard hair removal technology, using light energy at a wavelength of 755 nm to target the melanin (colour) pigment in the hair follicle for permanent reduction of unwanted hair. The laser energy is absorbed by the follicle and converted into heat, destroying the follicle's ability to regrow hair. In aesthetic medicine it has a high success rate, especially for people with light to medium skin tones and dark, coarse hair. It allows fast treatment of large areas such as the legs, underarms, bikini line, back and chest. As well as hair removal, it is a highly effective medical solution for ingrown hairs (pseudofolliculitis).
Procedure and Important Notes
How Is It Performed?
1–2 days before treatment, the hair in the area is shaved with a razor (methods that remove hair from the root, such as waxing or tweezing, must not be used). During the procedure, pulses are applied without the handpiece touching the skin or with cooling gas/air.
Aftercare
Temporary redness of the skin and slight swelling around the follicles (follicular oedema) are normal after treatment. Avoid hot water, exfoliating mitts, saunas and intense exercise for the first 24 hours. Protect the treated areas from direct sunlight and use a high-factor sunscreen.
